GET-OPTIMAL.COM’S REVIEW OF 2023 - AI 101, AUTOMATION & DE&IB

December 15, 2023

Festive greetings and a Happy New Year to all from us at Get-Optimal. com

We’ve had a ground-breaking, earth-shattering, fully inclusive of DE&I 2023 - and we are so excited to move forward into 2024, where we’ll be smashing glass ceilings, breaking down doors and working with hundreds of more awesome companies to optimise their Job Ads for diversity, inclusion and increased online performance using our proprietary AI and Machine Learning.

For our final blog of 2023, we’re talking AI. That’s right! Our top three blogs this year that got you all clicking, sharing, forwarding and whispering were, understandably, all about the intricacies of AI. So, did you find us via ‘Ai & ChatGPT’, ‘A watershed moment for AI this week?’ or ‘Job Ads Written by ChatGPT are more biased’?

If you missed them, you missed out. Here’s a quick summary of each to catch you up:-

Ai & ChatGPT

ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a chatbot launched by OpenAI in November 2022. It is built on OpenAI's GPT-3.5 family of large language models and fine-tuned with supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.

OpenAI was founded seven years ago as a non-profit research institute focused on ensuring that artificial general intelligence — autonomous technologies that could “outperform” humans — could be created safely for the benefit of all.

Get-Optimal secure AI Models fundamentally differ from Chat GPTs in ambition, customer types, data sources and execution. Chat is a replicator model; some folks would say: “Garbage in, garbage out’. We also work in a heavily controlled and safe environment and are hosted on Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services.

A watershed moment for AI this week?

Head over to the original blog for the timeline of events, but between 17/11 and 21/11, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman was fired and rehired.

It’s rumoured that this happened because OpenAI was on the verge of announcing its new project, Q* (Pronounced Q-star) - the next epoch of Chat GPT. This model would usher in the next significant step in generalised AI (AGI) - however, without any regulation, restrictions, or rules on how it would be used or governed - it posed a significant risk to humanity. It’s alleged that he was removed when staff members, with Altman at the head, brought this concern up in an open letter to the board.

Using an open, generalised AI poses risks to security and your IT networks. Without someone qualified in deep data science, compliance and security to monitor the data learnt from, you can very quickly end up with an AI full of errors, bias and aged data. It’s excellent for suggestions and inspiration, replicating its input without any knowledge of intent, insufficient for facts, delivering more qualified or diverse candidates, cold truths, or hitting KPIs.

Chat GPT’s very own disclaimer reads, ‘ChatGPT can make mistakes. Verify important information.’

Job Ads Written by ChatGPT are more biased

A recent study showed that the ChatGPT AI is particularly biased against neurodivergent people, people with physical disabilities and people from disadvantaged ethnic groups. It got us wondering, what are the other disadvantages of ChatGPT?

Reliance on pure AI: Overreliance on AI for information and decision-making can lead to decreased development of staff members' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. How do you trust it?

Bias and misinformation: AI models like ChatGPT are trained on large amounts of out-of-date data and can perpetuate historical and social biases and inaccuracies represented in the training data.

Lack of emotional intelligence: AI systems like ChatGPT lack emotional intelligence and can struggle to understand the emotional context of a conversation, leading to misunderstandings and unsuitable responses.

Job displacement: The increasing use of AI systems like ChatGPT could lead to job displacement in customer service, content creation, and others.

Lack of common sense: ChatGPT is trained on text data but does not have a deep understanding of the world as a human does. This can result in responses that lack common sense or make incorrect assumptions.

Lack of context: ChatGPT generates responses based on the input it receives but does not fully understand the context in which it was given. This can result in inappropriate, incorrect or nonsensical responses.

Limited ability to handle rare or out-of-vocabulary words: ChatGPT may struggle with rare or out-of-vocabulary words that it was not trained on, leading to inaccurate or irrelevant responses, especially in the nuisance context of role types, white-collar and blue-collar hiring.

Limited ability to handle ambiguity: ChatGPT may struggle with ambiguity and multiple interpretations, leading to confusion and errors.

Dependence on large amounts of training data: The performance of ChatGPT is dependent on the quantity and quality of text data it was trained on. This means that models trained on smaller datasets may produce lower-quality results.

Lack of transparency: The internal workings of ChatGPT models can be challenging to understand and interpret, limiting their transparency and accountability. This can be a concern as organisations must ensure that the model operates fairly and ethically.
